Plato craterlets (Feb 17, 2019)

Questo famoso plateau lunare contiene centinaia di craterini. I 4 maggiori, denominati Plato A, B, C e D, intorno ai 2.5 km di diametro, appaiono risolti in questa ripresa, insieme a Plato E ed F prossimi alla parete del cratere. Sono rilevabili un certo numero di altri crateri ancora più piccoli, che appaiono come spot bianchi. (ENG) This famous lunar plateau contains hundreds of craterlets. The 4 biggest, named Plato A, B, C and D (diameter around 2.5 km) are resolved in this image, together with the E and F close to the eastern and western perimeter. L’immagine ritrae una delle più caratteristiche formazioni della Luna, Messier (a sinistra) e Messier A con la sua “coda”. Si suppone che un primo impatto, molto radente, abbia formato Messier, ed espulso la raggiera di ejecta visibili verticalmente nella foto, mentre successivamente un frammento del meteorite sarebbe rimbalzato formando Messier A e la scia di materia che costituisce la coda della "cometa". Copernicus' Hook (Jul 29, 2020 19:44 UT)

The eastern prominence on the external rim, combined with the shadow cast by the shallow hills on the floor (both indicated by arrows) generate this interesting "hook" which can be compared with the more famous "hook" of Plato. Copernicus area (August 11, 2020)

One of the most prominent lunar craters, which no needs introduction. The deep terraces, the high central peaks and the bright ejecta around converge to indicate a young age, estimated in approx. 1 billion years. The iconoclast Nicolaus Copernicus was "punished" by jesuit G.B. Riccioli posing him into Sea of Storms, but from crater's grandeur probably emerges Riccioli's sympathy for heliocentric system. Gassendi under different illuminations (Aug 12- Aug 14 2020)

Aristarchus and Vallis Schröteri (October 10, 2020)

Aristarchus (center) shines as one of the brightest lunar features in the Sea of Storms (Oceanus Procellarum), surrounded by a wide patch of impact ejecta. It is a well known site of Transient Lunar Phenomena (TLP). Snake-shaped Vallis Schröteri, on the upper part, and the flooded crater Prinz (right) are also visible. Reiner Gamma (Oct 2, 2021)

Reiner Gamma (center) is the only lunar swirl visibile on the near side of the Moon. Resembling a tadpole or a fish, once believed a crater, it is now known to be flat and a site of strong magnetic anomaly. Its great albedo is in striking contrast with the dark basalts of the surrounding Sea of Storms (Oceanus Procellarum). Several hyphoteses have been proposed to explain the origin of lunar swirls, which remains still debated. Bailly (Oct 30, 2021)

With a maximum diameter of more than 300 km, Bailly is the biggest crater over the entire visible face of the Moon. It also overwhelms Clavius. In spite of seeing, from poor to average at best, I got advantage of a very favourable double libration (-6°20' lat., -7° long.), which exposed the south-western surface of the Moon placing Bailly crater quite good for observation. Aristarchus in colour (Nov 20, 2021)

Processing with a strong saturation (pretty much as one does with Mineral Moon) highlights differences in lunar soil composition. Here, the area of Aristarchus is quite poor in titanium oxide (TiO2) and appears blue. Classical Cassegrain 300 mm f/20 ASI462MC

Heinzel (Feb 12, 2022)

Moretus and Newton (March 13, 2022)

Apart from the prominent Moretus on the bottom, which no needs introduction, the focus of the image is upon Newton (upper part), recognized as the deepest crater in the whole visible face of the Moon.
